Buffet style cheese nights across the UK, Homage2Fromage was formed by Nick and Vickie in 2011 in Leeds and has now expanded to Sheffield, Harrogate, Manchester and beyond. The aim of this brand is to celebrate good, quality cheese in a fun, informal and informative way and get like-minded cheese fans together to meet, discover new cheese and hear some stories behind the cheesemaking too. Their events are a “help yourself” style event, and I have had the chance to attend a few and am a big fan! [ad]

The first Homage2Fromage event I went to was at The Hideaway in Sheffield City Centre, which I was kindly invited to. The theme was Italian cheese, and there were a whole EIGHT of them!! This was our first homage2fromage cheese event, and we loved it. It was very busy indeed, but we just grabbed a plate and found space on a shared table. All the cheeses were set out beautifully, with grapes, olives, chutneys, onions, crackers, and bread, also.
We grabbed a drink at the bar, had a short introduction from Nick the host, and then the word CHEESE was announced!! The hungry regulars of the crowd seemed to be the first up (never seen people move so quickly, especially for cheese, haha). But there was plenty for everyone, so much so we had a second helping (and probably didn’t need it, haha).

Each cheese is numbered, and you have a tasting sheet on which you can write down the smells, tastes, textures and even have a little guess on the name of the cheese (I’m not that much of an expert).
Once you’ve had chance to have lots of cheese and nibbles, Nick tells you a little bit about each cheese and you’re welcome to mingle, finish off your cheese and grab a few more drinks at the venue.

We really enjoyed the event and we returned for another a few weeks later, this time at on of our local bars the Chapeltown Tap. The event run at this venue was slightly different as Chapeltown Tap hosted the cheese night themselves, so there were different elements to the night.
They not only had 5 summer cheeses on offer to try, but they also expertly paired them with either a wine or beer selection. So of course I went with wine, Ben went with beer – it was fantastic!

All the cheeses were set out beautifully, with grapes, olives, apples, chutneys, onions, crackers, and bread, also. My wine pairings included a white, red, and Port to finish. Ben enjoyed a pilsner, wheat beer, and stout to finish.
The team at Chap Tap made it into a great evening. There was PLENTY of cheese, we had a double helping, of course.
We really enjoyed the event, and I have no doubt we will be on the lookout for another homage2fromage event again soon.. The tickets are approx £20 each for their events, and I would advise to go hungry! Check out their website here for more information and to see where the rest of the year’s events are being held.

👀➡️Chapeltown Tap often have ticketed events on – their next being Italian Wine Tasting on September 8th. They are also hosting a festive Homage2fromage cheese night in November too, which is already selling out quickly! Check out their Facebook page here for more info.
