The original Indian Street Food restaurant chain Mowgli, is still thriving and serving their customers some of the most delicious, authentic food inspired by the food that Indians eat at home. We headed down to the Sheffield location to try out their Christmas Feasting Menu between the 2 of us, and it was divine! For a reasonable £35 per person, you can enjoy Mowgli’s Christmas Feasting Menu up to the 5th January 2025 (Vegan and Gluten Free options). [Ad|Invite]

This menu begins with a drink on arrival; a glass of prosecco or bottle of Cobra (or you can swap this for a coke). Alongside this there will be Chat Bombs to share; Crisp bread puffs filled with chickpeas, spiced yoghurt, tamarind & coriander. (Vg available). I really enjoy these Chat Bombs/Puri. They’re fun to eat and something a little different for us! These ones in particular were MASSIVE – not the most attractive things to eat, but yummy and got us laughing.

Then choose one of three options of Street Chat & Meats; Fenugreek Kissed Fries – Potato with turmeric, fenugreek & Mowgli masala. (Gf)(Vg), Gunpowder Chicken – Mowgli’s chicken poppers, ginger, garlic, garam masala & golden fried in a chickpea batter. (Gf) or Himalayan Cheese Toast – Coriander, red onion & green chilli dressing, sharp cheddar & serve with Indian pickle. We went with the Chicken and the Cheese Toast. As is the way at Mowgli, the dishes come out as and when they are ready, so these weren’t starters as such, they actually came just after our Tiffin Boxes were served. But these dishes were a fantastic accompaniment to a curry. The cheese toast was very rich.

Next, choose one of three options of 2-tier curry Tiffin boxes with rice; Office Worker’s Tiffin – Meat & veg food roulette, total pot luck. (Gf available), Indian School Tiffin – Veg food roulette, total pot luck. (Gf available) or Vegan School Tiffin – Veg food roulette, total pot luck. (Vg) (Gf available). We both chose the Office Worker’s Tiffin and assumed we would get the same 2 curries each, but no! We were pleasantly surprised that between us we were served 4 different curries, all the more to try!!

We enjoyed: Mowgli Paneer – Staff favourite. Tender cubes of soft paneer cheese simmered with velvety sweet, spiced tomatoes, garden peas & fresh spinach. Tea Steeped Chickpeas – Chickpeas simmered in a rich Darjeeling spiced tomato & spinach sauce. Mowgli House Chicken – A lush Kerelan curry simmered with fragrant curry leaves, coconut milk & ground almonds. Agra Ginger Chicken – Chicken pieces cooked in bright fresh ginger, North Indian garam masala, sweet tomato, coriander & spinach. We can’t pick a favourite, they were all super delicious and had plenty of healthy ingredients. We are big fans of sharing our food and trying different and new things and being quite social with our food, so this was a great course for us.

We were so full, but then of course, you can’t forget Dessert. This Feasting Menu gives you the choice of either Chocolate Brownie served warm with ice cream, or Mango Sorbet in an ice cream cone. We both went with the brownies, which we thought we may struggle finishing after eating such a filling feast, however they were so rich and indulgent, we ate the lot!
I also gave one of the cocktails a try whilst Ben enjoyed some more Cobra; Sweet Delhi Heights – A tall red tower of raspberries muddled with gin, ginger, lemon, passion fruit & apple juice. This was super sweet, but a great contrast to the rich food.

I really enjoy the vibe that the Mowgli restaurants have to offer. They are great for a special occasion and if you’re not celebrating, then they are just a fantastic restaurant to go to try some mouth-watering, fresh Indian food. Don’t miss out on this well-prepared, Christmas Menu and book your table here before the 5th January, you won’t be disappointed.
A little more info about Mowgli Street Food…
Founder and Charitable Trust
Mowgli Street Food was founded by Nisha Katona. She gave up a successful 20-year career as a child protection barrister to fulfil a nagging obsession with serving food inspired by the Indian home kitchens of her ancestors. Her first Mowgli was born in Liverpool’s Bold Street, followed quickly by Manchester. There are now 24 Mowgli restaurants across the UK.
Nisha’s background meant she created the business with charitable giving at its heart and The Mowgli Trust has so far raised over £2 million for local community charities and international causes which support children and families all over the world, creating lasting change and enriching lives.
