Saffron Lounge, High Green – Sheffield

Shout out to the staff here, they’ve done a great job getting this lovely little restaurant open whilst still trading as a busy takeaway AND serving delicious, high standard food. We couldn’t fault our visit apart from it being one of the hottest days of the year, but luckily they had mobile air con units on haha. They have lots of dishes to choose from including vegetarian, meat and seafood and they also have a small but well stocked bar, so everyone is covered.

This restaurant, as with most British local curry houses (yes I do also love trying Traditional Punjabi & Pakistan food, but I also still really enjoy a curry house more catered to British pallet!), is a great place for a family meal, couples or friends, any occasion really if you like Indian food, and the prices are very reasonable with starters ranging from £3.50 – £8, mains from £9 – £13.50, and the selection is vast.

We enjoyed;

  • Chicken Rezalla – Strips of tandoori chicken on a bed of spicy minced lamb with flamed red peppers, red onions, tomatoes & fresh coriander. This dish was spicy, rich and delicious, we would definitely have this again.
  • Murgh Chatanoga – An explosion of flavours with strips of chicken, laced with green & red chilli peppers, fresh coriander, cumin and finely chopped garlic. Another spicy one but absolutely gorgeous and recommended highly.
  • Our usual accompaniments of poppadoms and pickle tray to start, and pilau rice & garlic naan to share with our curries – all spot on.

We aim to make this our regular go to when we want a treat. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.
